Types of coffee machines
Nespresso is a coffee concept based on the use of long-lasting ground coffee in aluminum coffee capsules. This concept was developed by Nestlé.
Nespresso by Nestlé
Both the capsule and the method of brewing coffee are patented, which initially meant that you could only make coffee exclusively with Nespresso capsules from Nestlé.
Nespresso Capsules
When you place a Nespresso capsule in the machine, you can make coffee with the touch of a button. The machine perforates the capsule and forces hot water through it under 19-bar pressure. Afterward, you dispose of the capsule.
Nespresso Cups
The Nespreso Cups are quite expensive, but since some of the patents expired in 2012, various other coffee brands have started producing capsules as well. These capsules are compatible with Nespresso machines, which makes coffee consumption somewhat cheaper. However, the question remains: is this truly a cheap alternative compared to coffee from a fully automatic bean machine?
Types of coffee machines
Coffee from ESE pads approaches the taste of real fresh coffee. These pads are similar to Senseo pads but of much better quality.
ESE Servings
Each pad is sealed airtight. The taste is often perceived as very good. However, the ESE pads or servings are expensive to use. The price of the machines is between that of a fully automatic bean machine and a Nespresso or Dolce Gusto machine.
ESE Servings by Illy
The ESE pads were invented by Illy and are also called E.S.E (Easy Serving Espresso Pods). These are small compressed coffee pads containing 7 grams of coffee. The pad is used in special espresso machines that are compatible with these pads. You should not compare ESE pads to Senseo pads because the quality is much higher. Not only Illy offers these pads, but brands like Lavazza and various private labels also provide them. Some E.S.E. machines also have a piston where you can put freshly ground coffee, which is very advantageous, giving you the option to choose how you want to brew your coffee.
Types of coffee machines
Dolce Gusto is a concept of Nescafé. Dolce Gusto Coffee Machines work in the so-called Dolce Gusto way. This means that you can make coffee at home with the push of a button. Dolce Gusto has an enormous versatility of coffee types and even tea and chocolate milk. The concept is comparable to that of Nespresso.
More than 30 types with Dolce Gusto
This way you can make intense black coffees, deliciously creamy white coffees, refreshing tea and sweet chocolate treats, you can choose from more than 30 types.
Dolce Gusto Machine
In the Dolce Gusto concept you use sealed coffee cups. You make fresh coffee under pressure of 15 bar. There are many people who really like the cups of Dolce Gusto. The cups are a bit more expensive than fresh coffee but the machine is much cheaper. Whether you like the house brand cups for Dolce Gusto just as much as the original Nescafé ones, you should decide for yourself. In any case, we have already seen machines for €50 and the most expensive device we saw costs around €300. Calculate here whether the Dolce Gusto Machine is beneficial for you or whether you should choose a fully automatic bean machine.

Types of coffee machines
With a fully automatic bean machine, you can make delicious fresh coffee. You fill the machine with fresh coffee beans. When you make a cup of coffee, the beans are first ground, and a cup of coffee is automatically brewed from the freshly ground coffee.
Automatic bean machine
Most machines offer the option to adjust the grind level and strength. You can also make a latte macchiato or cappuccino with most machines.
Fresh Coffee from Coffee Beans
The purchase price of most fully automatic bean machines is somewhat higher. Basic models start around 350 euros but can go up to over 1000 euros. That may seem expensive, but grinding fresh beans is much cheaper than buying coffee pods from Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, or ESE pads. For those who drink more than one cup a day, it quickly becomes an economical choice.
Coffee for your full automatic bean machine
Of course, you can also purchase very expensive coffee beans, but you should not compare apples with oranges. If you buy expensive coffee beans, you should also compare them with the more expensive Nespresso or Dolce Gusto coffee pods or ESE pads.
